Urban Design Project
A project by students at University of Bristol as part of their Innovation course
Who are we?
We are Jenna, Poppy, Audrey and Will. We are third year students studying Innovation together at the University of Bristol. We are particularly interested in the usage of public spaces, with an aim to design something that will benefit users of public spaces in the centre of Bristol.
What is the purpose of this research?
The purpose of this research is to investigate the use of urban spaces in Bristol city centre. It is being conducted as part of a project for our module INOV30003 Transdisciplinary Group Project 3: Doing Something Completely New at the University of Bristol. Currently, we are searching for opportunities or problem areas that users of these spaces have, so any feedback about these spaces is great.
What is your role in this research?
We are inviting you to share brief thoughts about your usage of public spaces in the centre of Bristol using the map you can find in the menu at the top of this page, or linked here. You can add a comment anywhere on the map by first clicking on the "+ Add a Comment" button in the bottom right of the map, and then clicking on the map where you want to comment about. Feel free to add multiple comments if you like !
We are currently focusing on a number of areas which are marked out on the map. We are looking for any reasons you love or hate these open spaces, and reasons why you use these spaces. When adding your comment, think about the following questions:
What do you use the space for?
How often do you use the space?
What do you like or dislike about the space?
How does your identity impact your experience in this space? (e.g. being a parent, being particularly young/old, your race, your physical/mental ability etc.)
Are there any risks or costs associated with participation?
There are no foreseeable risks or costs associated with participating in this study. Any identifiable data we collect from you will be stored privately and securely, and will only be used to find out the demographics of the comments you provide us.
How will the information you provide be used?
The information you provide will be used by student researchers enrolled in INOV30003 at the University of Bristol to inform their project work. The students will write up this project (including relevant research) into a report that they will submit for assessment. At all times, the information you provide will be anonymous. That is, it will be impossible for anyone to identify you based on either the information you provide when participating in the experiment or the student researchers’ written reports.
Do you have to participate in this research?
Participation in research is always voluntary, and you may withdraw your consent at any point during the research. You can do this by simply letting the researcher know that you wish to end your participation. Non-participation or withdrawing consent will not subject you to any negative consequences. You do not need to provide a reason for declining or withdrawing consent. Please note that once you have participated you have 30 days to withdraw your data.
Many thanks to Participatr for providing us with the interactive map. Check them out if you have any online community engagement related needs.
If you have any questions about this study, please do not hesitate to ask us in person or via email at wr7688@bristol.ac.uk (Will Robinson).
